What I Believe
Jun 28th, 2007 by scrappitydoodah
I used to think we weren’t typical homeschoolers due to our lack of Christian beliefs, but lo and behold, there are many non-religious homeschoolers out there.
So what do I believe? Well, my beliefs are always evolving, but here are some of them:
- If there is an afterlife, there is more than one road to get there.
- If there is not an afterlife, that’s okay, too. If dead is dead, once you’re dead…you’re dead. No worries.
- Mythology and religion are interesting and entertaining subjects with common elements that are enjoyable to discuss, from the ancient ones to the newer ones.
- Karma and The Golden Rule go hand in hand.
- Buddha and Jesus had a lot of thoughts in common.
- Taoism is an interesting, thought-provoking philosophy.
- Evolution is change, and this world has been changing for far longer than 6000 years.
- Homosexuality is not a sin, nor a crime.
- Gay marriage should be legal in all states and all countries.
- Gay marriage is not a threat to the family. Domestic violence is. Let’s turn our attention to this, and quit worrying about others’ choices for sexual and life partners.
- Marriage was just fine without the government’s involvement.
- Our government is too large, intrusive, and corrupt.
- Gossip is intolerable.
- Random acts of kindness can have far-reaching effects.
- Nature is spiritual.
- Ancestors should be remembered.
- Trees should be hugged.
- Life should be embraced.
- Children should not be hit, and that includes spanking.
- Harsh words can damage a child’s self-esteem for the rest of her life.
- It’s more than okay to explain to a child WHY.
- Breastfeeding is a totally natural way to feed a child, and covering a child with a blanket to breastfeed in public is not necessary. Would you want to be stuffed under a hot blanket while you had your meal?
- Everyone is entitled to have a belief system; just because yours may be different from mine should not be cause for avoidance, judgment, argument, disdain, or criticism.
Been rereading your blog today…. One of these days, if you ever come to Virginia, I’d love to meet you. I DO believe in God, but not in an overwhelming, in your face kind of way. But I can embrace every bullet on your list! Fantastic! And well put.
Thank you! I would love to meet you, too. I’m hoping to make it to Virginia sometime, and if I do, you can be sure I’ll let you know.
Ah, what a wonderful blog ya’ got going on.
I’m telling you I laugh like crazy and it’s fun checking out a home school family that isn’t praising The Good Lord, misspelling everything, waving to their uterus in the next state (Duggar) or sending their kids out on auditions.
So, thanks, ‘cuz yer humoring me.
xoxo
Sue
Thank you, Sue. I enjoy your blog as well.
“waving to their uterus” Hahahaha, that made me laugh!
You and I agree on many of those points.
